In May 2023 I was approached by Marcia Edwards (no relation) and asked if I could produce some music to accompany her wonderful choreography for a dance piece that explored the mystery of BELLA and THE WYCH ELM

This local legend had fascinated me for many years so I was very interested in exploring these themes

My idea was to fuse what would be basically music created for a string
quartet with electronica and elements taked from North African music and Spanish/Latin America
My hope was to evoke the English aesthetic but with the sense of otherness,idea of visitors from other places and times

My original intention was to release these tunes as an EP but
then I had the idea of creating some contrasting materialwhich would heavily explore improvisation

HIGH PHI, FORBELLA and THE DENIAL were created in August 2023, and
I feel that the addition of these tunes to the original dance pieces has
resulted in one of the most ambitious albums I have created for a long time

I enjoy creating epics, and this most definitely conforms to that tendency
